Red Lake spiritual adviser dies

RED LAKE - The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians is mourning the loss of one of its spiritual advisers. Lawrence Edward Stillday Sr., "Chima'iingan," died Tuesday at his home in Ponemah.

Stillday, 70, worked for Red Lake Chemical Health for 14 years. Stillday was a Vietnam veteran. He is survived by his wife, Violet, four sons, a daughter, three adopted children, 25 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, according to his obituary on Cease Family Funeral Homes’ website.

A wake will be held Saturday at the Ponemah Boys and Girls Club, with traditional services at 1 p.m. Monday at the Boys and Girls Club. Spiritual Leader Anna Gibbs will be officiating.

Interment will be at family burial grounds in Ponemah.
