The criminal complaint said the vehicle was northbound on U.S. Highway 52 near Zumbrota on Friday when it crossed the median and stopped on the southbound side of the highway.

In the car, Minnesota State Patrol found a digital scale, two glass pipes that tested positive for methamphetamine, a loaded pistol, five cellphones and a black backpack, which contained a plastic bag with 188 grams of methamphetamine, authorities said.

Schwarting told State Patrol the black bag was his.

Schwarting was convicted of felony second-degree sale of a controlled substance in November 2008.

If convicted of a second offense on the drug charge, the maximum sentence would be 40 years jail time and a $1 million fine. The firearms charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

Schwarting is set to appear in court June 27.
