Gas service has been restored to the northwest Minnesota towns of Warren and Argyle after a nearby gas line ruptured Monday, causing an explosion.

Viking Gas Transmission Co., the owner of the underground gas line, shut off service to extinguish the large fire caused by the gas leak and explosion. The fire was out about two hours after it started Monday morning.

All repairs to the gas line were completed as of Thursday, and Viking workers had started reestablishing service to customers Wednesday night, spokeswoman Megan Washbourne said. About 900 customers had been without gas service for about two days.

Residents in a two-mile radius were evacuated from their homes after the Monday morning explosion, which witnesses described as ball of fire that shot into the air. People were allowed back into their homes later that day.

No one was injured in the incident.

The cause of the gas leak is still unknown and under investigation, Washbourne said.
