Brainerd MN 506 James St. / PO Box 974 56401

The Mid-Minnesota Women’s Center in Brainerd has named Lindy S. Grell as its new executive director.

Grell, who has been in the Brainerd area for 13 years, will oversee all functions of the women’s center’s two programs: the Women’s shelter for victims of domestic abuse and the Alex and Brandon Child Safety Center, a supervised parenting time service for families.

The women’s center also provides training, support, education, and public awareness of the issues relating to domestic violence, abuse, and other threats to the safety and well-being of women and children.

The women’s center was formed in 1978 with the establishment of the women’s shelter, a 24-hour emergency shelter for battered women and their children.

“We are happy to have Ms. Grell join our mission of keeping women and children safe from domestic abuse and potential parenting time problems,” the women’s center reported in a news release. “Lindy’s combination of grant writing, program management, family law, and life experience is beneficial to this organization in fulfilling its mission. She shares our commitment to safety, advocating for rights, and empowering women, which is what this organization is all about.”

Grell has a law degree from the University of Kansas and bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and most recently worked for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.

She has worked a grant writer, tribal court staff attorney, family law attorney, parenting time expeditor and tribal law. She served on the Crow Wing County Human Rights Commission, provided assistance through the Volunteer Attorney Program, and has been involved in local grassroots efforts.
