BHS students recognized by national scholarship
A Brainerd High School student was recently named a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist.
Kristin Ringhand is one of approximately 16,000 semifinalists nationwide in the 61st annual National Merit Scholarship program.
These semifinalists have the chance to continue in the competition for around 7,400 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million offered next spring.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
Brainerd High School student Renae Ford was selected as a Commended Student.
Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2016 competition by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
