Mills Fleet Farm appoints interim CEO

Mills Fleet Farm announced Thursday the appointment of Wayne Sales as interim CEO.

Sales succeeds Duncan Mac Naughton, who is stepping down to join Dollar Tree, Inc., effective immediately. Mills Fleet Farm's existing executive management team will continue in their current roles.

"It has been such an honor to lead Mills Fleet Farm," Mac Naughton said in a news release. "With its fantastic team, rich heritage and great service, the company is well capitalized and poised for further growth. I expect to see great things from Mills Fleet Farm in the future, and I look forward to supporting the team through the transition and as a longtime customer."

Sales is an experienced retail executive with a track record of more than 40 years in the industry. Sales, who currently serves on Mills Fleet Farm's board of directors, was formerly CEO and president of Canadian Tire, one of the largest retailers in Canada, where he presided over significant growth and transformation until stepping down in 2006.

Most recently, Sales served as chairman, CEO, and president of SUPERVALU from 2012 to 2013. During his career, Sales served on the boards of directors of several major retailers, including Canadian Tire, SUPERVALU/Albertson's, Tim Hortons, and Toys "R" Us, and held leadership positions across merchandising, distribution, marketing and store operations management.

"Having been involved in Mills Fleet Farm at the board level and as a lifelong student of retail, I've seen firsthand the strength of the team, the brand and the value proposition it offers customers," Sales said in the release. "There is no other company like Mills Fleet Farm, and I am excited and ready to jump in and join the team to continue the positive momentum that is already well underway."
