2 injured when ATV crashes into power pole
PEQUOT LAKES—Two people were injured Aug. 5 when the all-terrain vehicle they were on crashed into a power pole on the south side of Forest Knolls Road, just west of the Clear Lake access near Pequot Lakes.
A DNR conservation officer was near the crash and responded. When the officer approached the scene he observed both subjects were conscious and bystanders and first responders were providing comfort.
Zachary Berndt, 24, Arden Hills, who was a passenger, was lying on his back and complained of a laceration on his head. A 16-year-old female of Arden Hills, who was the driver, was lying face down in pain and may have had a broken leg, it stated in the incident report written by the DNR. The DNR reported the ATV was traveling west on Forest Knolls Road when the driver lost control and crashed. According to a witness statement, the ATV was swerving back and forth prior to hitting the power pole, traveling at a high rate of speed.
Berndt was transported by ambulance to an unknown hospital and the teen was flown to an unknown hospital for injuries. Both subjects were not wearing helmets or their seat belts, the report stated.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, Pequot Lakes and Breezy Point police departments assisted at the scene.
