Deadline to file property tax refund is Tuesday

The Minnesota Department of Revenue is reminding homeowners and renters to file for their 2015 Property Tax Refund before it expires Tuesday, Aug. 15.

Claims for 2016 Property Tax Refunds can also be filed though they do not expire until next August.

Renters and homeowners that meet certain household income requirements may be eligible. Visit the department website for information on qualifying or type Property Tax Refund into the Search box on the website. Last year, the average homeowner refund was $840 and the average renter refund was $635.

You can track where your property tax refunds can be tracked using the department's Where's My Refund? system. The system will show which of the four stages a refund is in and whether any action is needed to complete the processing of the refund.
