Eight-year-old girl ID’d in fatal southern Minn. crash
CLAREMONT, Minn. — An 8-year-old girl was killed Friday, Sept. 7, in southeastern Minnesota when the car she was traveling in was rear-ended by an SUV. Her mother and brother were taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash that occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on U.S. 14 on the east side of Claremont in Dodge County.
The Mercury Milan, driven by Rachel Marie Harberts, 43, of Dodge Center, was stopped on westbound Highway 14 waiting to turn left when it was struck from the rear by a Hummer traveling the same direction.
Harberts’ daughter and son Jaxon Harberts were passengers in the Milan. The girl, Emerson Harberts, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Rachel Harberts and her son were taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
The driver of the 2008 Hummer, Tanner Kruckeberg, 24, of Dodge Center, had injuries that were not life-threatening, the State Patrol said.
According to the report, road conditions were dry and alcohol was not a factor.
