Cass Lake man arraigned on drug, weapons charges
WALKER — A 35-year-old Cass Lake man was arraigned Wednesday in Cass County District Court for felony third-degree possession of a controlled substance and felon in possession of a firearm, Cass County Attorney Christopher Strandlie reported.
According to the criminal complaint, officers with the Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force, Cass County Sheriff’s Department and Leech Lake Tribal Police Department executed a search warrant shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday at a Cass Lake residence and Alden Joseph Fairbanks Jr. was taken into custody.
A .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun was located about a foot away from where Fairbanks was arrested. Officers also recovered more than 3 grams of a substance that field tested positive for heroin.
Fairbanks’ criminal history shows four past convictions for felony-level crimes of violence, making him ineligible to posses a firearm, Strandlie said in a news release.
Fairbanks’ bail was set at $100,000 without conditions and $50,000 with conditions. His next court appearance is scheduled for April 11 in Cass County District Court.
