One killed in Aitkin County house fire

AITKIN — Firefighters found a deceased adult in the debris of a house that was destroyed by fire early Friday near McGrath, the Aitkin County Sheriff’s Department reported. 

About 5:30 a.m. Friday the sheriff’s office received a call from a neighbor who heard a loud noise and saw the residence on fire. 

Fire Departments from McGrath and Finlayson responded.  The Isle Ambulance also responded to the scene. In the debris, firefighters found the body of what is believed to be an adult, the sheriff’s department reported. No other information about the victim was available Sunday. 

The residence, located in Williams Township southeast of McGrath in southern Aitkin County, was a total loss, the sheriff’s department reported.

The sheriff’s department and the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s office are investigating the fire. The body was transported to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
