Citing excessive cost, Mills stops recount push

Robber apologizes, uses pepper spray on clerk

OTTER TAIL, Minn. (AP) — A robbery suspect in Otter Tail sprayed a female motel clerk with pepper spray while demanding money, but also apologized, saying he needed cash for Christmas.

KBRF Radio in Fergus Falls reports the robbery happened Friday morning at Thumper Pond Resort. The suspect was carrying a two-foot wooden handle when he jumped over the counter and sprayed the clerk with pepper spray.

He apologized while locking her in a closet.

The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office says the clerk was able to get out a few minutes later to call 911. She was unharmed except for the pepper spray.
