Omnibus hearing set for man charged in Chickamaw Beach house fire

WALKER — The 22-year-old Akeley man charged with nine counts of first-degree attempted murder and one count of first-degree arson for a house fire Jan. 8 in the Chickamaw Beach area, appeared Tuesday in Cass County District Court before Judge David Harrington.

Harrington set Brandon Todd Sannan’s next omnibus hearing at 11 a.m. Feb. 9.

Cass County Attorney Christopher Strandlie said Sannan’s attorney asked the judge to lower Sannon’s bail, but it was denied.

According to the criminal complaint, Sannan states that he intentionally set fire to a home shortly after midnight Jan. 8 with knowledge that it was inhabited. In the home at the time of the fire were homeowners Timothy and Carla Volcke along with six minor grandchildren and another minor child. The people were able to safely evacuate the home.
