Staples police looking for armed robbery suspect

STAPLES — The Staples Police Department is searching for a white male in his 20s or 30s who fled the scene Wednesday after entering the Staples Self Serve, brandishing a handgun and demanding money.

The armed robbery was reported at 2:35 p.m. No one was injured, the Todd County Sheriff Department said.

The suspect is described as a white male with a slender to medium build and about 6-feet tall. The suspect was wearing a green hooded sweatshirt, dark colored jeans and larger metal rimmed sunglasses. The suspect’s vehicle was reportedly a blue or brown Ford Taurus or Mercury Sable with North Dakota license plates.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Staples Police Department at (800) 794-5733.

As a precautionary measure, Staples High School went into a full lockdown mode and the elementary school went into a partial lockdown mode after the robbery was reported. But after a short time, the schools were allowed to dismiss the students as they were not in any harm.
