Eight arrested in drug busts linked to Pequot school
Eight people — four adults and four juveniles — were arrested Friday in a drug bust in which the majority of the arrests involved the sale of narcotics within close proximity of the Pequot Lakes High School.
Sgt. Joe Meyer of the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Department, and commander of the Lakes Area Drug Investigation Division, said convictions for those crimes would carry a stiffer penalty than drug sales at a different location.
Adults who were arrested and who were in custody Friday in the Crow Wing County Jail were Johnathan Matthew Ward, 20, Pequot Lakes, on a charge of fourth-degree sale of drugs; Cassandra May Hilgers, 18, Pequot Lakes, on a charge of fourth-degree sale of marijuana at school; Matthew Ryan Peterson, 18, the Pequot Lakes-Breezy Point area, on a charge of fourth-degree sale of marijuana at school; Bradley Eugene Huesmann, Pequot Lakes, 21, on a charge of fourth-degree sale of drugs.
Meyer said the arrests were the result of a four-month investigation. Six of the accused were arrested at Pequot Lakes High School. Meyer said the drug division investigated and developed informants in an investigation that involved agents from the sheriff’s department, the Brainerd Police Department and the Baxter Police Department.
“We received information that this was becoming quite a problem with rumors of sales and marijuana use,” Meyer said.
