Pine River man sentenced on felony charges related to a string of burglaries

A Pine River man was sentenced Monday on felony offenses related to stolen property from a string of burglaries in 2011.

Cass County Attorney Christopher J. Strandlie reported Richard Floyd Roubal, 25, of Pine River was sentenced on two separate charges of felony third degree burglary and one charge of felony receiving stolen property for offenses that occurred during summer and fall of 2011 in the Pine River area.

Roubal also appeared for a disposition hearing for violating his probation on a 2005 burglary conviction. After argument from counsel and impact statements from several victims, Cass County District Court Judge David Harrington sentenced Roubal to serve a total of 21 months in prison on these three new felonies (17 months on the receiving stolen property conviction, 18 months on one burglary conviction and 21 months on the other burglary conviction).

Pursuant to the Minnesota sentencing guidelines, these sentences will run concurrent with each other. Harrington also sentenced Roubal to serve the remainder of his 48-month sentence for the 2005 offense for which he had been on probation. The defendant has been in custody since his arrest by Cass County Sheriff’s deputies on Sept. 27, 2011.

The new charges resulted from an extensive investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s office, particularly Sgt. Jason Brogle and Deputy Tony Cyr, who spent hours tracking down stolen property and other evidence related to these crimes, Strandlie reported. Through this investigation, Roubal was tied to property from more than a dozen burglaries in and around the Pine River area. The matters were prosecuted by Benjamin Lindstrom, assistant Cass County attorney.
