Morrison County responds to shooting

Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel reported his office received a report of a shooting in the early morning hours Saturday after getting two 911 calls from a homeowner south of Upsala.

A male victim was reported shot. Deputies and Minnesota State Patrol troopers responded to the scene, finding Samuel Bennett of Sauk Centre, 27, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Bennett was transported to St. Cloud Hospital.

A 23-year-old suspect in the shooting was located in Melrose by Melrose Police officers and Stearns County deputies and turned over to Morrison County deputies.

The man was interviewed by Morrison County Sheriff’s investigators and admitted his involvement in the shooting, Morrison County reported.

The man is in the Morrison County jail pending formal charges.
