An omnibus hearing has been scheduled for a 29-year-old Onamia man charged with a felony for theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle after a police chase on Jan. 18.
The omnibus hearing was set for 9 a.m. April 8 in Crow Wing District Court.
According to the criminal complaint filed against Leslie James Gahbow, Baxter Police officers were called to Walmart Jan. 18 regarding two shoplifters, who took an Xbox 360 with a Skylanders game and a 30-pack of Mountain Dew. Gahbow and a 24-year-old Onamia woman fled the scene in a black Tahoe at a high rate of speed. Officers followed the vehicle and pulled it over along Highway 371 in front of Essentia Health-Baxter Clinic. As officer approached the vehicle and asked the driver, Gahbow, to roll down the window, he sped off and at times was traveling 100 mph. The pursuit led officers to Mille Lacs County and ended in a driveway in Onamia.

in stolen vehicle incident
A 19-year-old Motley man charged Jan. 21 with theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing a police officer and driving after revocation in connection with a police pursuit that stretched from Crosby to Brainerd appeared Feb. 12 in Crow Wing District Court.
Judge Richard A. Zimmerman sentenced Zachary Bennett to 90 days in jail with credit for the 23 days in jail he had already served. Bennett received a stay of imposition on the two felony counts. Bennett will be on supervised probation for five years on the theft of a motor vehicle charge and four years of supervised probation of fleeing a police officer. The driving after revocation, a misdemeanor, was dismissed.
Bennett allegedly stole a vehicle from in front of the Subway in Crosby and led police on a pursuit that ended on the surface of Rice Lake in Brainerd.
