Nurse who stole patient's medication sentenced

WALKER — A licensed practical nurse was sentenced Feb. 5 in Cass County Court for diverting a hospice patient’s medications at Golden Living Center in Walker.

Lisa Joy Dykema, 37, Laporte — charged May 5, 2012, with felony fifth-degree drug possession — was sentenced to three years of supervised probation and 22 days in jail. Judge Jon A. Maturi set 11 conditions for Dykema’s supervised probation that include no alcohol or controlled substance use, random testing, cannot enter any bars or liquor establishments, to take medications in the prescribed dosage and frequency and to write a letter of apology to the patient.

Dykema was originally charged with theft, which was dismissed through a plea agreement.
