Brainerd man arrested for alleged assault

A 34-year-old Brainerd man is in custody for allegedly causing significant bruising and other injuries to a Brainerd woman Tuesday.

The Brainerd Police Department was dispatched at 2:51 a.m. to a residence on the 3300 block of Oak Street for a medical. Upon arrival officers found a 34-year-old Brainerd woman, who had significant bruising and other injuries that appeared to be the result of an assault.

Police later learned from the victim that the alleged assault had occurred over a period of two or three days. The woman reported that the suspect choked her with his hands and smothered her with a pillow to the point that she lost consciousness. The woman was transported by ambulance to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center where she was treated and released.

Police subsequently located and arrested the suspect involved in this incident. He was taken into custody at about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday. According to the Brainerd police report, the man was arrested for second-degree attempted murder, two counts of third-degree assault, domestic assault by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic assault.

The case has been forwarded to the Crow Wing County Attorney for review and remains under investigation.
