PEQUOT LAKES—Pequot Lakes High School juniors Molly Johnson and Ben Golden will represent the school this year in the ExCEL—Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership—a recognition program designed for Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, show leadership qualities and are model citizens.

This is the 21st year the Minnesota State High School League has sponsored the ExCEL Award. Nominees must be juniors in high school, making satisfactory progress toward graduation requirements, participating in an MSHSL fine arts and/or athletic activity, holding a leadership position in school and working voluntarily in their community.

Johnson, the daughter of James and Jessica Johnson, has been a member of the dance team for the past five years and is also active in speech, in which she advanced to sections as a sophomore. Johnson has been on the "A" honor roll her entire high school career. She is active in student council, is a member of the National Honor Society and volunteers with a variety of organizations and has been a HOBY leadership participant.

Golden, the son of Darren and Robin Golden, participates in cross country, golf and band. He is a five-time letter winner and was an alternate at the state track meet last spring. Golden is active in band and has received a superior rating at solo and ensemble contests the past two years. He has been on the "A" honor roll throughout high school and is a member of the National Honor Society, is active in student council and is active in his church as a volunteer.

The statewide ExCEL winners will be announced in February.
