Minnesota woman accused of taking son arrested in Ohio

A Minnesota woman suspected of taking her son in violation of a court order has been arrested in Ohio.

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office reported that Amy Lorraine Winterfeldt, 44, was arrested late Friday by the Ohio State Patrol.

The sheriff's office in west-central Minnesota had issued an alert for Winterfeldt last week, saying she was supposed to bring her 4-year-old son, Alex Gomm, to his father in Appleton, Wis., on July 12 but didn’t show up.

The child, also known as Alex Winterfeldt, had been entered in the missing children database by Appleton police, and an arrest warrant was issued for his mother.

The patrol arrested Winterfeldt after pulling her over for a vehicle equipment violation, the sheriff’s office said. Three minors in the vehicle were unharmed. Besides Alex, she was believed to be traveling with her two adopted children.

Winterfeldt will face charges in Ohio for being a fugitive in possession of a firearm. Two firearms were found in the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
