Mark Anderson of Lake Shore announced his bid to run as a Republican in Minnesota House District 9A which includes parts of Todd, Cass and Wadena counties.

The contract pilot/instructor is the son of former Wadena businessman Don Anderson, who represented the Wadena area in the state Senate from 1982 to 1990.

In a news release, the candidate said he hopes to “transform Minnesota’s laughingstock business image from that of an over-regulated failed bureaucratic disaster to a shining model of free market simplicity and success ...”

Anderson, 53, could not be reached for an interview Monday.

In his news release, Anderson said he founded his first business Channel Inn and Granny’s Pub at age 23. He has also worked as a stockbroker in Edina. In 1980, he attended a national political convention.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in airway science and aircraft systems management from the University of North Dakota. In his news release, Anderson said he was the father of a 18-year-old daughter and an avid sportsman.

The candidate is a graduate of Wadena High School.
