Crow Wing County DFLers conduct annual convention

BAXTER — More than 90 Crow Wing County DFLers met Saturday, to conduct the annual Crow Wing County DFL Convention at Forestview Middle School. The meeting was open to guests, but only delegates who were elected at precinct caucuses in February were allowed to vote.

Area endorsed candidates Rep. John Ward, DFL-Brainerd, Joe Radinovich, and Taylor Stevenson each addressed the body. Rick Nolan, a candidate for endorsement for the 8th District U.S. Congress race spoke, as did Doug Clark, husband of candidate Tarryl Clark. Matt Freeman, field director for Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s campaign read a letter on her behalf.

The delegates elected the following directors to serve two-year terms on the executive board: Nicola Brambilla, Wayne Altonen, Anna Yakle, Deb Wallace Hasskamp, Kiley Breda, Robert Nesheim, Kathlene Meyer, Jesse Bleichner, Wayne Fleischhacker, Gwen Besnett, and Eric Norquist. Board Officers are elected in odd years. Tiffany Stenglein, Tom Besnett, Steve Barrows, Chris Kelly and Kathy Hegstrom will continue in their two-year terms as officers until 2013.

The convention also elected delegates to the Congressional District 8 DFL Convention and the State DFL Convention. These delegates will represent the county in the endorsement process and other party business that takes place at those conventions.
