Carlson, McElfatrick endorsed by GOP
Two incumbent lawmakers, Sen. John Carlson, R-Bemidji, and Rep. Carolyn McElfatrick, R-Deer River, were endorsed by Republicans March 24 at the Morse Town Hall in Deer River.
Carlson was endorsed for the Senate seat in the newly created District 5. McElfatrick was endorsed for the House in the new District 5B.
The new Senate district includes Beltrami, Cass and Itasca counties.
Carlson is currently representing Senate District 4 in the Minnesota Legislature and McElfatrick is representing House District 3B. Both races were uncontested and received a unanimous endorsement from the delegation.
Several Aitkin county residents attended the convention to show their appreciation for Rep. McElfatrick and wish her well in her upcoming election.
The new District 5B will not include Aitkin County, but will include a portion of Cass County instead.
Carlson had the opportunity to meet Itasca County delegates in the new portion of the district he hopes to represent in the Minnesota Senate. House District 4B Rep. Larry Howes, R-Walker, was also in attendance as a delegate. He is seeking the endorsement for House District 5A and that convention will be conducted in the Bemidji area at a later date.
The Deer River convention was chaired by 8th Congressional District Republican Chair, Ted Lovdahl.
