DFL's Road to Progress Tour to visit Brainerd Sunday

■ Brainerd Eagles celebrate 110 years

Brainerd Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 287 is inviting the community to join it in celebrating 110 years of community service during an open house anniversary party from 1 p.m. to midnight, Nov. 17, at the Brainerd Aerie, 124 Front St.

The event is open to the public and begins at 1 p.m. with an aerie meeting, followed by bar bingo at 2 p.m., a hog roast at 6 p.m. and live music from The Agates from 8 p.m. until midnight. Minnesota State Aerie President Bob Lee is expected to attend.

The Brainerd Eagles has maintained a presence in the community since 1902 and currently hosts nearly 700 aerie and auxiliary members. The group donates about $25,000 annually to organizations such as Brainerd Parks and Recreation, Confidence Learning Center, Brainerd Community Action and more.

■ Class of 1962 donates to

Brainerd Public Schools Foundation

The Brainerd Washington High School class from 1962 really came together at its 50th class reunion. Amid reminiscence and festivity, the class members sought to leave a permanent gift to future Brainerd students.

In July, more than $11,000 was donated to the Brainerd Public Schools Foundation (BPSF). In October, another $5,000 was added due to the generosity of classmate John Fruth.

The entire 1962 donation will be endowed as the “Class of 1962 Fund” to permanently benefit the 4A grant program to the Brainerd School District including academics, arts, activities and Athletics. Funds may be added to this at any time.

The board of directors consists of: Kevin Thesing, Jill Carlson-Ferrie, Debby Erickson, Michael Doran, Terry McCollough, Angie Nelson, Jennie Pelowski, John Raboin, Don Ryan, and Todd Vanek. Ex-officio members include: Jill Neumann, executive director, Julie Vreeland, coordinator, Reed Campbell, school board liaison, and Steve Razidlo, Brainerd School District superintendent.

■ Minnesota Votes No Tour to stop in Brainerd

Faith and community leaders on a statewide Minnesota Votes No Tour will stop in Brainerd at 5:30 p.m. Sunday in an effort to get out the vote against the proposed constitutional amendment relating to marriage.

The tour will stop at a Brainerd phone bank at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 415 Juniper.

■ DFL’s Road to Progress Tour to visit Brainerd

A statewide DFL Road to Progress Tour will stop in Brainerd at 7 p.m. Sunday to support efforts to elect a DFL Legislature on Election Day.

The tour is scheduled to stop at the DFL field office at 715 Charles St in Brainerd.
