Veterans' business aid wanted

ST. PAUL - A bill to give Minnesota veterans' businesses a foot in the door for public contracts is being considered in the House.

The bill by Rep. Bob Dettmer, R-Forest Lake, would appropriate $100,000 to launch a program that would give preference to veteran-owned businesses that do business with state and local governments.

“We feel that many of our veterans that are coming home might want to start businesses, and we feel this might be a good way to get their foot in the door," Dettmer said.

A similar bill awaits Senate consideration.
