■ Job opportunity

for youth at arb

The Northland Arboretum is looking for people to fill a temporary position for its Youth Internship/Operation Grow and Learn program, geared for at risk youth and those with disabilities.

Qualified candidates will be between the ages of 14-21 and have little or no job experience. They must be able to work in a team and independently, be responsible and have their own transportation to work.

A person for this temporary position will work 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 9-20. During the day, youth will work on agriculture/horticulture activities, event setup and takedown, hospitality, lawn care and general maintenance. At the end of the day, people will meet and review what they’ve accomplished for the day, what they’ve learned and then plan what they want to accomplish the next day. Youth will complete timecards and work on resumes to promote their skills.

This is a grant funded program to pay for instructors, supplies and any materials required. If the applicants are successful in completing the two-week program, they will earn a stipend on the last day. If, however, they miss a day of work or are asked to leave the program, their stipend will be forfeited.

Participants will need to provide their own lunch, snacks and water.
