Human beings need roots and, in the opinion of Joan Eschenbacher, have a right to find them. Eschenbacher, of Baxter, is the Minnesota coordinator for Adoptees' Liberty Movement Assn., an advocacy group seeking open adoption records.

30 years ago (1980)

(Photo) Bill Patrick, owner of Patrick's Sales and Service in Brainerd, announced the addition of a complete marine line to the business. It will include Johnson Outboard motors, Alumacraft and Tuffy Boats, and Trail-R-Craft trailers.

40 years ago (1970)

Dr. Helen Longfellow, Brainerd, has back some of her credit cards and other personal items that were stolen this summer. The thief, apprehended in Iowa recently, entered her house while family members were in other rooms and stole her purse.

60 years ago (1950)

Prisoners of the city and county jails won't be forgotten on Thanksgiving Day, according to dieticians who prepare meals for the jails. The lone prisoner at the city jail and the five in the county lockup will get Thanksgiving turkey with all trimmings, plus pumpkin pie.

80 years ago (1930)

Thirteen hundred kiddies taxed the Paramount Theatre to capacity at the special movie arranged by the Elks Lodge and the theatre for charity. The six potatoes needed for admission added up to fifty bushels to be used to help feed the poor.

100 years ago (1910)

Gerhart Peterson, 14-year-old son of the Ole Petersons, had a bad accident while attending the Deerwood school. He reached for a book and a dynamite cap in his desk exploded, tearing off three fingers on his left hand. How the cap got there is unknown.

I've worked at the Brainerd Dispatch with various duties since Dec. 7, 1983. Starting off as an Ad Designer and currently Director of Audience Development. The Dispatch has been an interesting and challenging place to work. I'm fortunate to have made many friends, both co-workers and customers.
