30 years ago (1980)

Early morning fires leveled two rural Brainerd homes today, with sleeping occupants escaping from the flames in both cases. Fire swept through the Mike Ramsdell home east of Brainerd and the James Morgan home on North Long Lake. There was one injury.

40 years ago (1970)

The Brainerd United Fund drive is in trouble and needs a concerted effort by volunteers to get it out. To date, the drive has received pledges and donations of $31,500, some $21,500 short of the goal. The big problem is only half the volunteers have reported in.

60 years ago (1950)

Lt. Arthur Mohler, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Mohler, was awarded the Silver Star for "gallantry in action" with the 24th Division in Korea. Mohler was wounded during an attack near Kyongju, recuperated at a hospital in Japan, and is now back in Korea.

80 years ago (1930)

Large audiences filled the First Baptist Church yesterday at the five services conducted in connection with the dedication of their new building. The first prayer was by Louise Barrett and the first sermon was given by Rev. Edgar Valiant, acting minister.

100 years ago (1910)

At the recent meeting of the Rathbone Sisters of White Cross Temple No. 6, forty members of White Cross Lodge No. 30 of the Knights of Pythias were present to enjoy the festivities.
