The Brainerd City Council voted 5-1 to try to force Mayor Bob Olson to sign its recommendation for a snowmobile route through Brainerd. Olson said he wouldn't sign it because residents in the area objected to the trail route.

While coliform levels in wells in a Baxter residential development appear to be not as serious as earlier indicated, the Minnesota PCA urged further testing. The city will be testing wells in Southdale to see if a problem exists, said Mayor Stan Smith.

A torrid 85 percent shooting first period, led by Mickey Timmons five-for-five and 13 points, got the Warriors off to a good start against Superior Central. But the Spartans zone defense prevailed 63-57 despite 27 points by Timmons.

Nine Crow Wing County men left yesterday for induction into the armed forces. The five from Brainerd include Gerald Gorton, Robert Berg, Don Rademacher, Art Graham and Roderick Rudolph.

County Attorney Sullivan exploded a volley today to declare that the editor of the weekly Brainerd Tribune and another man were the guns behind the Ryan & Ryan law firm's petition to unseat him, charging him with violating corrupt practices election laws.

100 years ago (1910)

Three N. P. shop machinists ran their Thomas Flyer, a 50 horsepower, five seated touring car, full tilt into the brick front of Rosko Brothers auto garage, tearing a hole four feet wide and several feet wide. They were coming at a good gait and missed the entrance.
