20 years ago (1990)

Military families are accustomed, but never used, to separation at Christmas time. But this year is particularly tough for the Kayala family of Pine River. They have sons Tom on the battleship Missouri and Jeff with a Marine detachment near Iraq.

30 years ago (1980)

This is no ordinary Christmas for Bob and Sue Huff and their two boys. When it was learned that they were suffering financially due to Sue's heart transplant, the community responded, raising over $26,000 to help the Huffs with bills and upcoming expenses.

40 years ago (1970)

(Photo) The Christmas mail rush is over, but there is still a pile of cards, letters and packages to deliver. Looking over the crowded mail room are Glenn Bloomstrom, mail clerk, and Ray Knott, superintendent of mails. Window service closed at noon today.

60 years ago (1950)

With Jim Smith doing the cutting chores, Brainerd carved up the Aitkin Gobblers on a 62-36 victory platter before 2,000 fans at the Brainerd high school gym. Smith served up 29 points, falling just short of his all-time high of 31 scored at Little Falls last week.

80 years ago (1930)

The Alumni showed their lack of practice, but flashes of their old speed were evident in the annual Varsity vs. Alumni basketball game. Putting up a strong attack, but unable to break the zone defense which confronted them, the Alumni came up short, 22-20.

100 years ago (1910)

The Grand Theatre is making special preparations for Christmas week and will give a matinee performance on Monday. The vaudeville acts are something out of the ordinary and are sure to draw a large audience to this popular play house.
