The Brainerd boys' swimming and diving team captured its first Section 8 title in program history. The Warriors were led by Lance Hoff, Mark Schmitz, Evan Kaneski and Steve Piepgras in toppling six-time defending champ Fergus Falls 345 to 307.

Twenty-two adults and youngsters will face charges in two major crackdowns on burglary and vandalism. One group operated in northern townships, another in the south, where they killed a dog, shot up ten mailboxes and 15 road signs and disrupted phone service.

Brainerd's city street department will continue to follow its “no overtime” policy on the removal of snow from streets, except in emergency, the council decided. Overtime costs are prohibitive, though driving on many side streets is now difficult due to packed snow.
