The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department called in its tactical team after a U.S. marshall arrived to arrest a man wanted for drug smuggling. After staking out a residence for seven hours, when the house was searched it was discovered the man wasn't there.
30 years ago (1981)
There were no parades in their honor; no medals passed out. But the Minnesota School Safety Patrol program celebrated 60 years of service with not a single fatality at a guarded crossing. Much credit can go to Legionville, training thousands since 1930.
40 years ago (1971)
An awesome first period, with 39 points on 17 of 23 shooting from the field, carried Coach Corky Johnson's Warriors to a 71-57 victory over the Bemidji Lumberjacks in their first meeting since 1956. Brainerd now stands at 12-3 on the season.
60 years ago (1951)
Deputy Sheriff Al Krueger today warned of illegal parking by fishermen on highways, especially by Whipple Lake. “They park on one side of the road until there's no room left, then on the other,” said Krueger. Recently a school bus was unable to pass through.

Clarence and Claude Holden, students at the University of Minnesota, arrived in the city last night to spend the weekend visiting at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Iver Holden.

The Ingalls Motor Boat Co. is putting in piers and a large dock on Serpent Lake near Crosby. They will also build a large pavilion there. Fishermen on Serpent are having a great time fishing on the ice, with large fish being caught, some weighing 30 pounds.
