20 years ago (1991)

Todd Wensloff's goal at the end of the second overtime gave Roseau a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Brainerd in the Section 8 championship game. Brainerd finishes with the best season in Warrior hockey history at 21-3-1.

30 years ago (1981)

Brainerd's “Crime Stoppers” program is a year old. But there are an awful lot of criminals who aren't wishing the program many happy returns. Since its inception it has assisted in solving more than 50 criminal cases and recovering $7,500 in property.

40 years ago (1971)

The Warrior basketball team continued its perfect record away from home by stopping Grand Rapids 64-60. Grand Rapids is now 15-3 and Brainerd 14-3 on the season. Larry Bunnell poured in 26 points and Mickey Timmons 19 to lead the Warriors.

60 years ago (1951)

More than 10 inches of snow fell in Brainerd in the second heavy snow storm in three days. The combined storms dropped more than 20 inches of snow on the city. Still, the state highway department said all major highways in the area were open for travel.

80 years ago (1931)

A petition carrying the names of 129 property owners in the 5th Ward and part of the 1st Ward in downtown Brainerd, which would be affected by the proposed relief storm sewer project, protested construction on the grounds they could not pay the cost. 

100 years ago (1911)

The barbers union had a meeting last night and resolved to resume the practice of closing at 8 p.m. After the meeting, delicate refreshments were served, washed down by a pale amber fluid. Gene Wood, as usual, promised to bring the pickles and, as usual, forgot.
