Mary Gottsch has joined the Brainerd Lakes Area Chamber as assistant director as of March 11. Gottsch served as customer relations administrator for Universal pensions and also worked for the Nisswa State Bank and the Nisswa Chamber.

Civilian dispatchers will soon replace uniformed policemen on the dispatch desk at the Law Enforcement Center following city council action. The action means that Brainerd will soon have two more policemen available for patrol duty.

A humbled but game Brainerd team will tangle with Mountain Lake for a chance at third place in the state tournament, following a 63-34 walloping at the hands of Canby. Playing before a record crowd of 18,473, Brainerd was done in by ice-cold shooting.

Fifty years ago yesterday, J.A. McColl stepped off the train at Brainerd from Winnipeg, Canada. The depot was located near the river and there were 30 inches of snow on the ground. The streets were sand and today's main business district was virgin jack pine.

The roof has been placed on the steel water tank at the Northern Pacific Sanitarium. It requires steady nerves to work 145 feet above the ground. Several local men climbed the latticed columns to the top and then concluded to stay on earth.
