Brainerd International Raceway's request for an exemption from Minnesota PCA noise standards attracted an overflow crowd to a Crow Wing County Board meeting. Residents living close to BIR are also opposed to proposed legislation that would exempt BIR.

(Photo) The Rev. Dallas Young, pastor of First Lutheran Church, was presented with Rotary's “Service Above Self” award from Hanspeter Borgwarth, president of the Brainerd club. Young will leave soon to take over a church in Stockholm, Sweden.

Kostek's copped the championship crown in the YMCA City League basketball tournament with a hard fought 46-38 victory over Burton's. Sievek led Kostek's with 12.

Thieves broke into the garage at the Brainerd Auto Co. last night, backed Dr. Erickson's car out of the way, and took the Overland roadster, used for demonstrations, for a “joy ride.” The car was returned to the garage after midnight and the doors were closed.
