High winds were blamed for two power outages that affected portions of Brainerd, Baxter and areas to the south. The first, on a Crow Wing Co-op line knocked out power to 1,100 customers. The second hit the south half of Brainerd and areas near the Westgate Mall.

(Photo) Merril Nelson of Pine River carries a section of pipe into the new Brainerd-Crow Wing County Airport terminal building. Workers are concentrating on the interior of the 10,000 square-foot building. It is expected to be ready for use in October.

(Photo) The Brainerd Moose Lodge has announced plans for construction of a new lodge building at the corner of 9th and Laurel Streets in Brainerd. The 70 by 100-foot building will be steel with granite facing and is expected to cost $100,000.

George Erickson, Sr., age 56, editor of the Brainerd Tribune since 1925, has died of blood poisoning at his home after an illness of five weeks. It was brought on by a carbuncle. He was a former president of the Minnesota Editorial Association.
100 years ago (1911)
A crew of 100 men under Ed Lavoie left Little Falls to clear the river of logs between Little Falls and St. Cloud. The log drive that started from Brainerd has had considerable trouble due to low water and is now only four miles south of Brainerd.
