(Photo) Walt Konen, building supervisor for the Crow Wing County Museum, moves a water cooler jar filled with over 25,000 pennies. The pennies were contributed by visitors, and there is a goal of 2 million pennies to be raised by the end of 1991.

An emotionally-drained baseball player was returned to the Warrior baseball team today after a reluctant school board vacated both his suspension and the athletic policy that led to it. The 3-2 vote came after a district court judge ordered the board to resolve the issue.
40 years ago (1971)
Sophomore right-hander Alan Wallace pitched and batted the Warriors into the finals of the District 24 baseball tournament. He threw a two-hitter and broke up a pitching duel with C-I's Carl Hendrickson with a homerun in the third for a 2-0 triumph.
60 years ago (1951)
A jail is a jail to most people, but not to one local man. He tried to break into the county jail Friday afternoon when all deputies were out on call. Instead he was intercepted by Brainerd police, who invited him to their jail. He objected, but now resides in the city jail.
80 years ago (1931)
The lake season opened last Friday and Saturday and it was a most auspicious opening. Never have weekenders been greeted with such fine weather in the lake region. The resorts reported very good business and some had to turn business away.

By request of the Dispatch, the director of the census has released the statistics of population for Crow Wing County. The county has increased from 14,250 in 1900 to 16,861 in 1910. Brainerd has increased from 7,524 to 8,526 in those ten years.
