The school district's Outcome Based Education task force has set the agenda for implementing the new teaching system. The system focuses on what the student must know - rather than what is taught - and assures that each student has met those goals.

Miss Brainerd, Pam Bensen, will be among 23 contestants who will arrive in Austin today to begin Pageant Week, leading to the coronation of Miss Minnesota. Miss Bensen said, “I'm looking forward to it, and I know it will be a lot of fun.”
40 years ago (1971)

60 years ago (1951)
A 21-year-old Brainerd Army veteran, CPL George Southern, is home with his mother and brother today after hitch-hiking the last 29 miles of his trip back from Korea. He's on a 30-day furlough after being wounded in heavy fighting during his 100 days on the front.
80 years ago (1931)
Three buildings and a garage in Block 82 were sold at auction to the highest bidder as the school board prepared to clear buildings prior to the construction of the new junior high school. $1,950 was brought in and there are eight more buildings to be sold.
100 years ago (1911)
The improvements being made to Gregory Park are fast making it the beauty spot of Brainerd, with new shrubs, trees, flower beds and fountain. The tennis court is now about complete and it is said the board may put in croquet grounds.
