The Brainerd Community College Foundation has just accepted the donation of property and a building valued at $16,000 from the South Long Lake Gun Club. The property will be sold and the proceeds used to create an endowed scholarship in name of the gun club.

30 years ago (1981)

(Photo) Gov. Al Quie was met by picketers when he arrived at Larco Manufacturing in Brainerd with a group of Twin Cities business and industrial leaders. He talked with the picketers, and then toured the plant with Larco president Fred Bieber.

40 years ago (1971)

Brainerd's American Legion baseball team has now won four in a row after losing its two opening contests to Moorhead. The latest victim is Park Rapids by a score of 6-3, as lefty Craig Zelinske went the route last night, giving up only two hits until the 6th inning.

60 years ago (1951)

Ken McGonagle, former Univ. of Minn. pitcher, faced off against former teammate Whitey Skoog as the Pierz Pirates stopped the Brainerd Braves 3-2 in 12 innings. McGonagle fanned 17, while Skoog needed relief help from Herb Score in the 9th.

80 years ago (1931)

100 years ago (1911)

The railroad boilermakers vs. machinists baseball game attracted a large crowd who liberally applauded the many splendid plays. The game was called on account of darkness after the 8th inning with the machinists up 6 to 5. Tom Templeton hit the only homerun.
