Crow Wing County Board chairman Steve Sievek has received copies of 195 letters directed to County Attorney Jack Graham, asking him to resign. All were form letters with the same date. Graham said he wasn't surprised.


30 years ago (1981)

Harold Gillespie, CEO of the Brainerd State Hospital, has been feeling a lot of pain lately. Last week, he was directed to lay off 25 employees. “This is the first time we've had to go through such agony,” Gillespie said. The number of patients has decreased.

40 years ago (1971)

Past Brainerd Exalted Ruler Melvin F. Olson has been named as State Elk of the Year by the Minnesota Elks Association. He was first selected as Brainerd “Elk of the Year,” and then District Elk of the Year, before receiving his final honor.

60 years ago (1951)

80 years ago (1931)

A transient youth, who was here to caddy in the big golf tourney at Pine Beach, slept in the city jail. But there was so much noise he didn't get the rest he wanted. So he returned, saying he preferred the jail because it was the coolest place in Brainerd.

100 years ago (1911)

The first concert of the summer season will be given by the Brainerd City Band at the band stand at depot park. After much persuasion, Dr. F.J. Sykora, the organizer of the present band and the old Brainerd Marine band, will again take up the baton.
