Two anglers stand at the head of the walleye class with one final exam remaining. Gary Roach of Merrifield and Dan Plautz of Wisconsin rank one and two on the Professional Walleye Trail. Roach leads with 155.6 pounds after the initial three tournaments.

(Photo) Lt. Col. Don Jensen, Brainerd, was recently awarded a Meritorious Service Medal for logistics excellence, pinned on by Lt. Gov. Lou Wangberg in a ceremony at Camp Ripley. Jensen is a National Guardsman with Headquarters Detachment in St. Paul.

Brainerd's American Legion team, led by Alan Wallace's 3-for-3 at the plate and 10-strikeout pitching, swept past Bemidji with an 8-5 win at Memorial Park. Greg Roberts contributed two hits to the Brainerd effort.

The County Farm Bureau's annual picnic at Lum Park was declared a big success with 3,000 people in attendance. In his speech, Gov. Floyd B. Olson urged a closer cooperation between farm and city dwellers for a return to prosperity.

C.W. Koering is making some great improvements to his ball grounds and has shown himself to be a public spirited citizen. He is erecting a grandstand of oak timbers, 24 by 90 feet, which will seat 600 fans. He is also taking some of the bumps out of the field.
