By season's end, Crow Wing County's 1991 highway construction program will have spent about $5.8 million. Highway Engineer Duane Blanck said that 10 projects are under construction, three have finished planning stages, and two are being studied.

A frustrated and irritable skunk, which somehow got his head caught in a glass fruit jar, looked so comical that John Wrobel had to pull his car over and laugh. While admitting he believes in kindness to animals, Wrobel wasn't prepared to come to the rescue.

Two of five men, arrested in New York in connection with a series of bank holdups totaling nearly $1 million, robbed the First National Bank of Staples July 15, just 10 days after being released on bond. They were identified from photos as two of the five robbers.
