Eight weeks of work by 10 area law enforcement agencies has resulted in the arrest of 14 adults and 3 juveniles on drug and related charges. Arrest warrants are out for four more adults.

Voters in the Brainerd School District will go to the polls Thursday to decide the fate of a 2.25 mill local tax levy sought by school officials to offset inflation and declining school enrollment. If approved, it will raise $361,000 and get a state match of $617,000.

Brainerd school administrators are hoping for clear-cut guidelines from federal authorities before issuing the first teacher paychecks on Sept. 20. The question is whether teachers are subject to the freeze on wages and prices set by President Nixon.

A miniature cloudburst accompanied by hail hit Brainerd and part of the lake region, with local showers recorded for only a few minutes in the morning. The sudden, ferocious storms flooded several basements in downtown Brainerd.
