No one's getting trampled in a rush for Twins paraphernalia, but watch out if they make the World Series. Brainerd area retailers of Twins merchandise say sales have been slow, but Homer Hankies are selling by the thousands.

The Crow Wing County grand jury returned indictments against two Brainerd Water & Light Dept. officials on six counts of theft, bribery and failure to turn over state funds. A third indictment lodged similar charges against an Annandale scrap metal buyer.

(Photo) This Crow Wing River walleye catch above the Pillager dam by Daryl Larson and Chuck Brown included a pair of lunkers, 11-4 and 10-7. Also hooked recently in the Crow Wing by Harry Siers was an 11-12 walleye measuring 31 inches long.

A capacity throng is all but assured for Brainerd's testimonial supper for its own Gov. C. Elmer Anderson. But a special space is being reserved for his only known non-well wisher. Time magazine said Anderson is a “mediocre politician,” and has been invited to attend.

Elmer Foster scored two TDs, one on a 60-yard run after intercepting a pass, as the Brainerd high school Warriors hung up their third consecutive win, a 24-6 victory at Staples. Brainerd's fourth encounter of the season will be next Friday at Aitkin.
100 years ago (1911)
The largest barn in Crow Wing County, the big red structure on the Hildebrandt farm just south of the city, and now owned by Dr. R. A. Beise, has burned to the ground. It measured 65 by 40 feet, and was believed burned by tramps who were sleeping there.
