The Brainerd Warrior girls' cross country team made its biggest stride in program history when it finished second in the Section 8AA meet and qualified for the state meet for the first time. Turena Johnson won her third consecutive section title and Jaime Mueller was fifth.

Two brothers from Brainerd, Herb and Jim Palmer, recently met in Korea during the battle for Heartbreak Ridge. The two boys are sons of the Archie Palmers, 610 F Street NE. Herb, a cook, was hauling chow to the front lines when he spotted Jim, a rifleman.

When Wm. Bierman, Ironton policeman, thwarted a holdup at the Spina Hotel at 3 a.m. today by overpowering a bandit flourishing a menacing .45 caliber automatic, he had no idea the bandit was wanted on three indictments for crimes in Brainerd 18 months ago.
100 years ago (1911)
Mail carrier C. A. Nelson, of S. 7th Street, reports a phenomenon in the shape of a second crop of strawberries, which ripened in his garden and were picked by his wife last Saturday. This certainly puts Brainerd in the banana and strawberry belt.
