In case there was any doubt, Highway 210 from Deerwood to Aitkin will remain closed over the winter. MnDOT made the decision following the snowstorm that dropped ten plus inches of snow on the lakes area. Construction on the 9-mile stretch will resume in spring.

30 years ago (1981)

Like other Minnesota cities, Baxter recently received a bulletin from the legislature warning that local government aids and homestead credits may be delayed or cut. According to the city clerk, Baxter currently receives $18,000 every three months.

40 years ago (1971)

Sunday could have been called “Brainerd Day” at Camp Rucker, Ala., where the 194th Tank Battalion is training. Minnesota Gov. C. Elmer Anderson visited troops and conferred with their leaders, also bringing them 2,400 cookies baked by local moms.

80 years ago (1931)

Drawing took place in the Clerk of Court's office for members of the grand jury to sit here on Nov. 9. In the drawing for 23 jurors not a single woman was drawn. County Attorney Sullivan will present the Spina Hotel case and worthless check case to the jury.

100 years ago (1911)

High school football captain Moxie Mahlum slept through his alarm clock, set for 3:30 a.m., and missed the train carrying the team to St. Cloud. He awoke at 7 a.m. and made a furious round of hotels and garages, thus finding a ride to the game, saving his day.
