20 years ago (1991)

Brainerd High School junior Turena Johnson placed sixth individually, and the Warrior girls placed 11th in the state cross country meet held at Alexandria. The meet had been postponed one week due to the snowstorm which blanketed the entire state last week.

30 years ago (1981)

A Little Falls man had a bad day on Sunday. First, his car was gutted by fire. Then DNR officials found three deer heads in his trunk - none of which had antlers. The current season is “bucks only,” and the man did not have a doe permit.

40 years ago (1971)

Two musical concerts are set in Brainerd under direction of Michael Smith, Brainerd Junior College musical director. The Brainerd Chorale will perform at 1st Congregational Church as some songs require organ accompaniment. The Concert Choir will perform at the college.

60 years ago (1951)

(Photo) Gov. C. Elmer Anderson took time out during an inspection tour of Minnesota's 47th Division at Camp Rucker, Alabama, to visit ill Cpl. James Nelson in the camp hospital. Nelson used to deliver newspapers to the governor when both lived in Brainerd.

80 years ago (1931)

While St. Paul's Episcopal Church celebrates its 60th anniversary in Brainerd, the church has adopted a resolution honoring Mr. and Mrs. Tom Shoaff, who were the first couple married in the original Episcopal church in 1871, thus the first marriage in the county.
