20 years ago (1991)

The Brainerd girls swim team won its fifth consecutive Section 8 championship at the Univ. of North Dakota. The Warriors edged Alexandria 345 to 332, led by Sallie Park and Renee Linn, who set meet records in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.

30 years ago (1981)

At noon tomorrow, Veterans Day, Brainerd's carillon bells will ring out in concert once more — after 10 years of silence. And, in a stroke of irony, the man who will play them is the one who delighted Brainerd with their music for 15 years, the Rev. E. G. Barrow.

40 years ago (1971)

(Photo) The new co-captains for next year's Warrior football team were named at a ceremony in the gym honoring this year's squad. Paul Straka and Mike Morgan take over duties from Ryck Simmonds and Brian Helmer, this year's co-captains.

60 years ago (1951)

An old key-wind pocket watch is the prized possession of SFC Neil Holm, who is serving with the 5th Infantry in Korea. Holm, a tank commander, reports that his tank was hit by a shell and a piece of shrapnel hit his watch, but failed to penetrate it. It saved his life.

80 years ago (1931)

The low bid of $183,555 was submitted by a Minneapolis firm for construction of a concrete bridge across the Mississippi on Highway No. 2 at Main Street.

100 years ago (1911)

Tom Brown has taken a lease on the Batcher opera house in Staples. This theatre seats 600 and is a cozy playhouse. Mr. Brown will conduct this in addition to managing the Brainerd opera house. Brown will place every seat for the moving picture show at 5 cents.
